WRUC History

WRUC 89.7, “the first station in the nation!” There has historically been a bit of controversy surrounding this slogan. The argument is over whether or not WRUC was truly the very first. The truth is: In August, 1920, 8MK of the Detroit News began broadcasting, though they did not have a broadcasting license. On October 14, 1920, WRUC began broadcasting, with a broadcasting license, making WRUC true to its slogan!
